It's highly possible that the things he saw were those four planetary, heavily celestial bodies. And if you're a human who's already primed to look for an entity, singular entity or UFO, then it's possible that you would have seen those and assume they were a shape of a diamond. But wouldn't there be other stars in between those? It's just hard for me to physically understand him in that pilot seat, observing all that stuff.
