How to Reduce Your Reliance on First Impressions

LZ Granderson: What are some common strategies that people could use to get themselves to be a little bit less reliant on first impressions if that's what they decide they want to do? He says we have tried to see to what extent can we remap the actual associations to try to diminish their strength. LZ: I don't think that the counter-stare type shifts that we've shown in our studies would probably persist any longer than a couple days at most, maybe even a couple hours, I think we'd be lucky. The same kinds of things that have been effective with racial bias interventions might also potentially be effective in these sorts of evaluations," he adds.
