The Importance of Received Pronunciation in English

English is an extremely broad church. Received pronunciation is spoken by less than 2% of the population of England. It's no longer possible to condemn an accent because it doesn't fit in with this small unrepresentative version of the language. As long as the accent doesn't interfere with the need for intelligibility, then that's all right.
