Coniartes describes at length the dismantling of the expensive church furnishings which sat proudly in the Cathedral of Orthodoxy. The Crusaders brought in pack animals and carts to remove all the precious metal. Meanwhile over at the monastery of the Pantocrato, where John and Manoewheel Cominos were buried, dozens of relics had been stored for safety. While the rank and file were hacking away at the gold and silver, a French abbot named Martin decided to protect these valuable relics by removing them all to his ship.
