The History of Land Grabs

Before the Norman conquest in the Anglo-Saxon period, it's thought that maybe about kind of 4,000 thanes owned most of England. That number has stayed pretty consistent ever since. In my valley, the Kent Church estate owned by the Scudamore family was taken there in the late 11th century as a thank you for building loads of castles along the Welsh border to dispossess my forebears. You know, Swansea is one of the most cash-strapped councils in Wales and one of the poorest countries in the UK. And yet we're still making these massive hand lights for people just for permission to use their land.
