The 19th Amendment re-enfranchised women in the 1920s. The movement started in the 1780s and really took off after the Civil War. In 1877, a Missouri resident white woman citizen went to the Supreme Court asking if she should be allowed to vote. She was told that voting is not one of those privileges; it's up to the state.
