Mete is the simple wish for all beings to be happy, to be at peace. It's that generosity and openness of the heart that simply wishes well for all beings. Mete has this amazing ability to embrace all without distinction. We don't feel close to everyone on this planet. May we feel close to 50 people? And it's for this reason that meta is called one of the boundless states. Its a boundless state of heart and mind, one of the immeasurables because it can embrace all.
