The stoics believe that this capacity for assent is already a great gift, something that differentiates us adult humans from animals and small children. A beast can experience that the world seems a certain way, but only a mature human can take a critical status regarding the world. With increasing wisdom comes an increase in the extent and detail of our cognitive impressions.
