In 18 96, there were more than a hundred and 25 thousand black voters in north carolina. By 19 o two, just six years later, there were only about six thousand black voters left on the books. Welmington does not get a black citizen to serve in public office again until 19 72. They don't have a ablack elected official from north carolina until 19 92. Even longer than a hundred years is someone black going to washington. So, ah, these have really lasting effects. No one was held accountable.
