The great scholar Anandakumaraswamy says that when you look at Hinduism and Buddhism superficially, you might think they are different. But the deeper you go, you realize that they are identical. And even the Buddhists speak of the Akhali Kthama, like Sanatana Kthalma, which is beyond time. So this is another most fascinating subject of the bizarre manner in which Indology and study of India has emerged in the last 200 years with academic scholars leading people astray.
