What's the Process of Navigation and Spatial Memory in the Hippocampus?
There are many different brain areas that are devoted to processing vision. Many of them appear to process spatial types of information about where things are, how things are moving through space. And then another visual pathway goes into the ventral part of the brain, kind of right behind your ear, which seems to be involved more in processing of form or shape or identifying objects. Which is what you've focused on now. What brain region seems critical for navigation and spatial relationships? Sure. So there are two major themes of research in the hippocampus, spatial memory navigation and episodic memory.
