The way wages are structured to day very much reflect decisions that were made by legislators in the great depression, when we first got sort of our laws around employment and labor. So these were laws that were passed and black communities did not benefit from them. They were purposely passed with toral carve out for african american workers. And so instead of sort of wardly talking about how, yes, we have a highly racialized work force, and we are passing laws that give them more rights than everyone else, they're really hiding behind this sort of benevolence facade," she said.
