The Importance of Sustainability in Publishing
FSC is the forestry stewardship council, set up about 40-50 years ago. For a long time, that's been the standard on which all publishers have worked. Greenpeace accused them of kind of greenwashing. But more to the point, there are too so many more people consuming so much more paper and books - it no longer really applies. The way trees are replaced is not sustainable. And one major publisher in this country, 95% of their carbon output comes just from the paper.
