The Case for Illusionism as a Sales Candidate
The overall case for illusionism can only be holistic. It requires a comparison of this view with other views when it comes, for example, to the capacity to account for the data. The idea is that if illusionism and realism explain our data as well, then we should choose illusionism precisely because fundamental consciousness is so hard to integrate to a more successful view of reality. But do we have direct introspective data about fundamental experiences? And that's where the second consideration kicks in. I think that we have good reasons to believe that we do not have direct introspectiondata about fundamental experiences.
