Episode #205: Training For Strength vs. Training For Size

Barbell Medicine Podcast

CHAPTER

Is There a Role for Trying?

In general, we see that larger ranges of motion stimulate more hypertrophy than smaller ranges of motion. More is probably better up than there's a point of diminishing returns certainly. If you are not training enough to cause any muscular damage, you are not signaling this immune based cascade to sort of signal muscle satellite cells and muscle repair mechanisms. So it's probably not driving as much muscle protein synthesis and muscle protein accretion at the level of the muscle itself. And again, there's a dose dependent relationship between training volume and muscular hypertrophy.
