Papa took on board something that had been spotted at least 200 years earlier, or around two centuries earlier, in any case. David hume, the scottish enlightenment philosopher, had spotted a puzzle with induction,. That seemed to no logical reason why the sun would rise again to morrow. And papa took that thought and applied it to science. He said that a statement should be regarded as scientific, and if it was falsifiable, if there were ways of disproving it.
