The Dangers of Using Technology to Enhance Human Nature

We have lots of examples of employing technologies before we understand what their full effects will be, especially in the environment. We need to worry about "the unwitting disruption of benign interdependencies" I think that overlooks the fact that at least for some enhancements maybe especially cognitive enhancements there are going to be network effects. You might say well think about literacy when only a few people were literate maybe it gave them disproportionate power. But then if the technology diffuses rapidly enough the good effects for lots of people may compensate for whatever initial unfairness there was.
