The Protein Endocrine Axis
Diet with increased levels of proteins and certain amino acids, including methionin, are most effective in increasing growth hormone signaling. Plant-based protein sources like peas and beans and lentils are typically low in methionin. Switching from 18 to 7% of calories from protein can lead to a decrease in IGF-1 and an increase in longevity. The second major axis I want to point out is the sugar endocrine axis. sugars can play a role in signaling leading to acceleration of the aging process.
