Charlie had fallen in the first rush riddled with bullets. One shell wiped out Stevenson, Thoreau and Roy as they grouped by a captured gun. McMillan had been shot in the stomach and died after waiting hours in a trench. Big Herman was missing. They located his body a month later. And clearly war is hell. It's a physical and it is a psychological hell. But it also teaches us how strong we as human beings can be what we can overcome. We all have that power. We just need to find it and to win.
