The key is that grace gives back to us what Adam lost by the fall. It does more than it gives us what Adam would have gained in obedient. In Reformation categories, the problem is the corruption of nature because of sin. Sin needs to be extricated or put to death so that we could be raised to a new life.

In the beginning, God spoke the world into existence. He made man and woman the crown of his creation, image-bearers of the Almighty God. Humans have a special place in God’s created order. But as we know, it didn’t take long for sin to enter the world, corrupting this image and changing our relationship to our Creator.
