The Importance of Motherhood
A new meta-analysis by Ceci Khan and Williams has made some men very excited. They show that controlling for publications men and women are just as likely to be promoted within universities. Controlling for productivity and publications neglects an important driver of gender inequality, Dr Alice Evans says. By that she means women bearing the lion share of childhood with less support from the state or their male partners. The good news is that that gap is actually closing. Women have increased their productivity, but mothers are still at a significant disadvantage.
