The Myths About Immigration in the Past

In the past, imigrants succeeded really easily, whereas to day, imigrants are kind of mired in poverty. That was the first myth that we sought to re evaluate. And i think we have this sort of nastalgic view of the ellis island generation and how they were able to get rich quick. This comes from sort of triumphalis stories, and from maybe the narrative we heard in high school history classes. But it also actually comes from academic research. It turns out that some of the earliest work that was done on a what we think of as the Ellis Island generation did find what looked like really rapid success.
