So much of the scholarship that is produced in the humanities today matters to no one except other people who are pursuing careers in the humanities. And the cognitive dissonance may be even stronger when you think because you're reading Milton for the sake of proving your bona fides. So I was sort of taken aback by and then I read Jonathan Haid as well and they're sort of forgetting even just the competitiveness of college admissions a general trend towards rising anxiety and depression amongst the young.
