Russ Roberts and Julia Gailiff on Happiness With Children
Julia Gailiff said we should have better predictive models for individuals about whether or not they would be happy having children. I was very surprised by Russ Roberts' response to this, which is this is the kind of decision one should make without data. He's right that a lot of people don't have kids and wish that they did. And I think people overvalue, overestimate how much satisfaction they're going to get out of their careers.
