When you were doing your PhD, did you work in a big lab that you had to go to every day? Do you have a supercomputer available or anything like that? Oh, God, no. Supercomputers didn't exist back then. Most of the work actually was done during the summers when there was no students there. You had to physically link these computers up and tell them to work with each other.
