Marina raskova was one of the first women to serve in an all female regiment. She and her crew were killed when their plane crashed on a muddy river bank. The soviets were very suspicious of people who had spent any time in other countries or in terratory controlled by different political ideologies. They viciously interrogated their own soldiers and often accused them of being brain washed double agents bent on bringing down the communist party.
