The Debt Ceiling and the Struggle to Avoid Default

The fight over the debt ceiling is getting more intense. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy put a proposal on the table that would raise the debt ceiling by $1.5 trillion. The White House, though, has accused him and House Republicans of holding the American economy hostage.
