Are You Pre Renal or Acute Tubular Injuries?

The urine electrolytes the phena is all about trying to decide whether the patient is pre renal or has acute tubular injury. Pre renal meaning sort of a hypoperfusion type state for the kidneys. If you have chronic kidney disease it doesn't make the test nearly as easy to interpret. The other important part of this is the studies that have been done when they look at the fractional excretion of sodium or the fractionalexcretion of urea. Those studies were done with very small numbers. These are not big studies that have really tried to verify that FINA or FUERIA is a good test.
