Inflation Is the Economic Thrill of the Great Recession
Waking up to inflation running at a 30 year high is, well, simply a nightmare for any government. The big question for the chancellor was, is this now the new normal, or is this just a quick, temporary shock? In which case, do i, as chancellor, try and ease the pain? Because i can that if it's just a year or so, but i may not be able to do it if it's for ever. And if it is for ever, do i want to kind of fade it in and make it a little bit easier for a little while?" he said.
