Innovation in the Rail Industry

Short line railroads don't really have much of a budget for innovation. A lot of things run by pencil paper and really bare-bones software. What works there is probably not feasible, let alone any kind of value add on a big 32,000 mile transcontinental class one rail network. But these days seeing a lot more work on automation in terminals. There's a few uni-pacific terminals out here in the west side of Chicago that are going through some big automation retrofits.
