Venice has just spent decades building a seven billion US dollar seat event system called Mosay that finally started working in 2020. But the forecast climate change scenarios that Mosay was designed to deal with back in the 1980s are now outdated. So parts of the city are still seeing flooding whenever the tide goes more than 80 centimetres by its regular level. City officials will only raise the Mosay system when tides hit 110 centimetres in protection from about 86% of the city. It takes four to five hours in total for these things to flood and lift up and block flood waters coming in.
