CHAPTER

What's Your View on Esop?

Aesop is the ugly slave who speaks truth to power. He tells us something about the greek world without him having to be a real person. The use of animals and everyday objects defines him as part of one of the few parts we know of popular culture in the ancient world. Fable picks up elements from the street level of experience of a cat, a dog, a jug, a pebble on the street, and turns them into symbols of an allegory that speaks to humans about their everyday life.
