The Challenges of Reason Giving in Ethics

Most people end up rationalizing their deepest prejudices and probably their yuck reactions at some level. I think much ethical discourse still does operate at a fairly intuitive, primitive level. Emotions are obviously very important in our moral behaviour. But we should strive to do that better rather than descending to a kind of democratic approach to ethics where we take a vote on how much yuck there is out there in the population for particular practice.
