Soil Is a Source of Carbon, Not a Sink

We've lost 133 billion tons of carbon from our soil in the last 50 miles. Soil already stores three times the amount of carbon that's stored in the entire atmosphere, and five times as much as all plant life on earth. But interestingly, there's a lot less carbon in the soil because of our farming. We could be handling a good chunk of our carbon problems with soil. Instead we're using soil as a source of carbon more often than as a sink.
