We Don't Need Religion
Freud's understanding of religion was that it was childish and in some sense should probably be removed, but provided a kind of boundary of moral disgust. Secularism sees faith as 'dangerous' and says we need to remove it from society. Rabbi abraham joshua herschell says human existence cannot derive its ultimate meaning from society because society itself is in need of meaning. The more we sever ourselves from any sort of religious source, the more there is a crisis of meaning, rather than an increase in it.
