Witkenstein was the professor of philosophy at cambridge. Karl popper had just arrived to take up a job at london school of economics. He'd come from new zealand, where he'd spent years writing open society and its enemies. Witgenstein decided that many so called philosophical problems were linguistic puzzles. And this was not poper's conception of philosophy at all.
