Is There a Legacy of Tools?

We are legating to our heirs a certain shape of the universe and their civilization based on the tools we decide to build and hand to them, right? There's there's a heritage of tools. And i think about this very concretely, because this came home to me when i was building a work bench in my garage using my great grandfather's bench plane.
