The Bridge to China

CHAPTER

Is It a Good Idea for Kids to Learn to Love Other Cultures?

I want to share a really interesting idea that I found fascinating from 10 years ago. Historians are always looking for new ways to learn about the way that people understood themselves and others. And so historians actually are using these descriptions by white imperialists of other cultures and reversing them to try to better deconstruct the perceived identities of the imperialists. Alex, do you think it's a good idea that because we live in an increasingly globalized world where people are moving around and we're interacting with each other's cultures? Do kids or middle school kids should be learning these kinds of skills everywhere?
