Matthew 27: 50 says Jesus gave up his spirit. That's clearly language for death, and the rest of the context indicates that it means he died. He is clearly willingly laying down his life. In a way, this, I suppose, his vindication because he said this is what was going to happen. But all of his power, all of his behavior,. all of his social sense made it look like he could have avoided this whenever he wanted to.
