The Roots of the Vampire Legend
Stoker built a mythology around a historical figure from the fifteenth century named vlad. The third vlad was from the kingdom of walacia, now part of modern ne romania. Bran castle is just an image he found in a book that he felt captured the mood he was aiming for. What ever, the notion of a vampire, or at least of an undead creature that feeds on the living does have roots in the area.
