Is There Something in Common With All Forms of Investing?

If i put in x, i want to get more than x out of it. For instance, when you invest in gold, you take the gold, you can't get more gold from it. But when we invest in certain other things, like a house, somebody's going to pay you some rent,. The house is going to be worth more when you sell it. Ands i think this is universal as a phenomenon, that you want to achieve out of it - but there re rethere are theer concepts that remain.
