The Importance of Revelation

First Vatican Council stated that we don't need revelation to know God exists. We can come to a knowledge of God's existence wholly apart from revelation, as is proved in Aquinas' five ways. The church has the ability to teach us because God has revealed it. If you have science contradicting what we know to be true, certainly through faith, you've either got bad science or bad faith.
