The Verse, Which Has Five Bar Phrases, Is a Little Unusual

The first thing i like about the verse is that it actually has five bar phrases, which is a little bit unusual. A four measure phrase or multiples of four are very common in phrasing and we're just pretty used to hearing them. The result of that is that it gives the verse a sort of a twisting because there's this extra measure in every phrase. It makes it feel like it's kind of serpentine and it's moving in an unexpected way. And i think that that is something that i've never noticed until i learn the song that there are five bar phrases in the verse.
