The Importance of Soul
Soul is like angels in that it does not change in its very nature or essence. So it is a mean term between angelic nature and quality, which is subject to changing. As a bonus, this gives Fichina one of his many arguments for soul's immortality. He follows Plato's mythic narrative by exhorting us to pull the soul upwards into the heavens until it partakes of perfect intellectual contemplation enjoyed by angels.
