The Importance of H.H. Kung in the 1930s

Chiang Kai-Shik desperately needed money to fund his army and pay off all the various warlords and soldiers in that chaotic period of China at the time. The person he had to do this during the 1930s was H.H. Kung, a banker who married into the famous Song family. He managed to raise funds from all sorts of legal and illegal taxes and extortions. And later used to get money out of the US to fight the communists during the war when arguably he should have been focused on fighting Japanese.
