How can we respect the value of tradition without being blind to its problems? Short that's a great question. I don't think right now that our culture lacks for an incentive structure, psychological, educational, institutional, professional or economic, for rigorously questioning the roles of the institutions that we have. The way you deal with that danger is to ask questions and have arguments. A little less passion would be helpful. On the right, then i see nationalism has misplaced gratitude - so what a what lesson could the left teach the right and the right teach the left about gratitude in our own American culture?
