The Life of Walata Petros

Walata Petros was a non-born in 1592, and thus someone whose life was shaped by the disastrous attempt to impose Catholicism on Ethiopia under King Susenius. The book by Garaudelos about her life is the earliest known book length biography of an African woman. It can be read as an inspiring tale of a successful, non-violent movement against European proto-colonialism. Like Queen Maketa in the Kibra Nagast, Walata Petros is an Ethiopian heroine, admired for her wisdom and leadership.
