A I Assisting Pivotal Act
The alignment tax is the amount of extra effort it will take for an a i to be aligned. This includes both research effort as well as compute and engineering time. Performing a pivotal act without a i is likely really hard, but could look something like transforming the world's governments into dathelan. Mery seems to think that this is the path with the ighest odds of success. But this isn't meant to be a concrete plan. See the strategic background section here.
