Zig should either have a policy of do not use that feature in the compiler until there's another stable release. Or make sure that every time you introduce a new feature, you do a release so that you can always have some exact past version to access. And I guess the sort of lighter weight version of that, but which still is bad for your workflow. You are totally right on point with my view about how we don't want Zig to just spam people with releases all the time. We would rather have there be like a small number of releases where we kind of know what we're getting ourselves into.
