The Confederacy and Its Reactions

Lancashire textile workers rallied against slavery and against the confederacy. Their reactions came close to being heroic, even though this was among textile workers who were unemployed in many cases. Lincoln wrote them a letter describing their actions as 'sublime christian heroism which has not been surpassed in any age'
